Dr. A. Rehman

Medical Director: Dr Arkam Rehman is a Board Certified Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician with sub specialty board certification in Pain Medicine, who has extensive training & experience in treating spine and other musculo-skeletal pain problems. He is from a sub-specialty of Minimally Invasive Interventionists with the primary goal of evaluating and treating their patients efficiently with a combination of medications, physical therapy and minimally invasive spinal procedures as may be needed to expedite recovery and improve the patients quality of life.
Areas of Expertise: His areas of expertise are back & neck pain, sciatica & Sacroilliac Joint pain, carpal tunnel, shoulder, hip & knee problems etc. which he addresses with focused physical therapy and appropriate epidural, facet, and other injections, and advanced Cool Radio-frequency and other laser techniques, where applicable, in order to help eliminate/manage the pain.
He also is proficient at EMG’s & NCV’s. With his experience working with Orthopedic, Neurosurgeons, & Anesthesiologists, he can treat most general spinal conditions conservatively with minimally invasive advanced spinal procedures, yet knowing when to refer the patient to the appropriate surgeon for orthopedic/Neuro-spine surgery. Dr. Rehman’s mannerism & skills as a Rehabilitation & Interventional Physiatrist makes him a great first option as a specialist who can manage everything from initial treatment, to focused Physical/ Occupational therapy prescriptions, and minimally invasive spinal procedures for the best possible non surgical outcome in more than 90% patients.
Clinical Training: He did his clinical internship at the busy Cook County Hospital in Chicago in Internal Medicine following which he further trained at the esteemed Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in Neurology for a year learning to evaluate and treat painful conditions such as sciatica and headaches etc with World Class Physicians. He then transferred to Chicago and further trained at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital system doing his clerkships with facuty at University of Illinois and Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroresearch. He was selected as the Chief Resident at his residency program due to outstanding performance and he was in charge of residents from 3 residency training programs as they visited the Marianjoy Rehabilitation system for further experience.
He then worked at Hampshire Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Northampton, MA for a bit more than 3 1/2 years. He worked with a team of Orthopedic Surgeons during that time helping manage/ treat Athletes from five regional colleges and universities including University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Smith College, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Westfield state college, and Williston High School. He trained and worked as a team with Dr. Charles Mick, Spine Surgeon, at Hampshire Orthopedics in diagnosing and treating simple and complex spinal problems and learning to identify pathology by listening to the patient and trusting the MRI etc films, evaluated with his own eyes, and not the radiologist whose reports can be very misleading many times.
He then moved to Florida and worked almost 15 months at The Pain Center, an Anesthesia based practice headed by Dr. Andrea Trescott in further treating spinal conditions with advanced techniques. After leaving The Pain Center, He worked a year with Neurosurgeon Dr. Mark Spatola further increasing his knowledge and experience of minimally invasive Neurosurgical treatment perspective and techniques. He then founded Sunshine Spine & Pain, PA in 2005 with the goal of bringing quality spine care to the patients who have gone from doctor to doctor, not getting the desired answers and treatment results. Another major surgeon who mentored him closely for about 4-5 year is Dr. Arnold Graham-Smith who is a national figure in treating Sacroilliac Joint Disorders who made him a better clinician in diagnosing and treating Sacro-Illiac Joint injury related disorders as from Car Accidents/ Auto accidents etc.
While he is just a small person, he feels he combines the best of Orthopedic, Neurosurgical, Anesthesia, and Rehabilitation medicine worlds to give the people the best and most advanced treatment options available for treating their spinal and other musculo-skeletal conditions.
Personal Info: He is married to Judy Rehman for 7 years now and they have 2 children. Daughter Amna Rehman and son Omer Rehman are the joy of his life.
